When traveling with small babies or kids to Sri Lanka, it’s important to pack items that will make the trip comfortable and enjoyable for both you and your child.

Here are some items you may want to consider:

Child-friendly items: Pack items such as a stroller, baby carrier, and toys to keep your child entertained and comfortable.

Diapers and wipes: Pack enough diapers and wipes for the entire trip, and a few extra just in case. It’s unlikely that you’ll come across reusable swim diapers in Sri Lanka and if you do they can be expensive depending on your usage, so it’s a good idea bring along your preferred brand from home.

Feeding supplies: It’s always a good idea to take precautions when eating in a foreign country as your toddler may have specific dietary requirements, hence consider bringing along familiar foods from home. If you’re breastfeeding, make sure to bring a nursing cover, or if your child uses a bottle, pack enough formula and always use bottled water.

Clothing: Pack lightweight, comfortable clothing for your child, and consider bringing extra layers if you’re traveling to cooler areas.

Sun protection: Don’t forget to pack sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen for your child to protect them from the sun.

First aid kit: Pack a small first aid kit for your child, including pain relievers, band-aids, and any other essential items.

Medications: If your child requires medication, make sure to bring enough for the entire trip and keep it in your carry-on luggage.

Mosquitoes : They can be a problem in Sri Lanka, especially during the monsoon season. Its nice to always carry a brand of Mosquito repellent creams and sprays that suits your little one after checking with your doctor. Dress your child in long sleeves and pants to be safe and always nice to ask for a mosquito net.

Car Seats : Car seats are not commonly used in Sri Lanka, but if really need one you can rent at some car rental companies but it can be expensive. If you plan on traveling with a child and want to ensure their safety while in a vehicle, it may be a good idea to bring a car seat from home or rent one from a reputable car rental company.

When renting a car seat, make sure to check if it meets safety standards and is appropriate for your child’s age and weight. Also, consider bringing along a seat belt extender, as seat belts in rental cars may not fit properly with a car seat.

Keep in mind that road conditions in Sri Lanka can be challenging, with traffic congestion and poor road quality in some areas. When traveling with children, it’s important to follow safety guidelines and make sure they are properly secured in a car seat or seat belt at all times.

Child-friendly accommodations: Consider booking a family-friendly hotel that offers cribs, play areas, and other facilities that cater to children.

Remember to pack light and only bring what is necessary for your trip. If you’re traveling with a baby, consider bringing a lightweight and compact travel crib for your baby to sleep in.
