The Pekoe Trail – Stage 1
Hanthana to Galaha 12.8km

Welcome to the start of your journey, the first stage of The Pekoe Trail.

Your walk will begin at the historic Ceylon Tea Museum in Kandy built into the shell of an old tea factory resting on the Hanthana Estate.

A notable feature of this stage is that it runs parallel to the Hanthana Range. Hanthana is a protected area home to numerous species of birds, reptiles, insects and wildlife like fishing cats, monkeys, leopards and foxes.

It is popular among locals and tourists, as it has the easiest access for hiking, camping or bird watching experiences within Kandy city limits. As you walk through small villages and towns folk, you will conclude your journey at the Galaha post office.

The Pekoe Trail is under development and will be ready for travelers in 2023. Get in touch with us to find out more.

The Pekoe Trail is funded by the European Union (EU) with additional support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by IESC on behalf of Sri Lanka Tourism.
